Safe is a relative term for someone like Sweeney, who lives on blood and war and sacrifice and a little bit of luck. Knowing what he knows about himself now, it's easier for him to understand why he's lived so long. He lives better when people leave him offerings, but he's lived for longer on blood.
 
And someone is always spilling blood.
